An innovative platform for accurate prediction of electricity production and consumption
In the energy industry, predictability and balance between energy production and consumption are becoming key points on the path to a sustainable future. Smarticity, an intelligent software platform that uses advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, brings a solution that enables accurate prediction of electricity production and consumption, taking into account meteorological and other natural and social factors.
Smarticity has the potential to transform energy systems, especially in light of the introduction of renewable energy sources. “When we realized that the energy sector was undergoing an incredible transformation due to the expansion of renewable sources, it became clear that managing such complex systems would require technology like the one we were already developing”, explains Boban Stojanović from Vodena, the company behind this innovative platform.
Technology for better energy efficiency
Smarticity ensures better balancing of energy production and consumption, contributing to increased energy efficiency, cost reduction, and resource optimization. AI-based algorithms analyze real-time data, enabling precise prediction of energy needs and adjusting production accordingly.
„This system reduces losses and costs for energy companies, helps increase system stability, and enables faster and more efficient response to changes in consumption or production“, says Nikola Bojović.
Education as the key to the future of innovation
For the Vodena company, the development of such innovations is not only a technical challenge but also a societal one. "Equipment and technology are now more accessible to us, but what we really need to invest in is the education of young people," the company emphasizes.
The development of innovative solutions such as Smarticity requires significant investments in research and development, and for small companies, this is often a major challenge. "Before a product becomes market-sustainable, it must go through a phase of substantial investment, while the return on investment is still far off. This is exactly why funds and support, such as those provided by the Innovation Activity Fund, are crucial for creating such innovations,” concludes Stojanović.
In light of global challenges in the energy industry, Smarticity represents a step towards more efficient and sustainable management of energy production and consumption, contributing to greater energy efficiency and cost reduction on a global scale.
The Direct Grant Agreement – Increasing the Innovation Capacities and Technological Readiness of SMEs, signed between the Innovation Activity Fund and the Ministry of Finance (Sector for Contracting and Financing EU Funds), ensures funds for the continuation of the Early Development Program, the Innovation Co-financing Program, and the Science and Industry Cooperation Program. The total value of the Direct Grant Agreement amounts to 20 million euros, of which 15 million euros are from the EU Pre-Accession Funds for 2018 (IPA 2018) and 5 million euros from the budget of the Republic of Serbia, allocated by the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation. The amount allocated for financing approved projects within the Early Development Program, the Innovation Co-financing Program and the Science and Industry Cooperation Program, funded under this Direct Grant Agreement, totals 18 million euros.
