VEERNY: Digital Support for Modern Parenting
Caring for children remains one of the most important issues in every society; yet, the way parents participate in their children’s everyday lives continues to evolve in line with modern lifestyles and technological advancements. While children spend most of the day in kindergarten, parents often have only partial insight into how their child’s day has unfolded.
The Smartlabs team from Belgrade has developed the Veerny application, designed to improve communication between kindergartens and parents. The development of this innovative solution, focused on greater safety and timely access to information for parents, was supported by the Innovation Fund with financial assistance from the European Union.
Veerny was conceived as a practical tool that connects all participants in the early childhood education process: educators, parents, and kindergarten management. Through clearly defined functionalities tailored to different user roles, the application facilitates the exchange of information essential to a child’s development. It makes it available at the moments when parents need it most.
In practice, Veerny enables educators to easily record a child’s daily activities, nutrition, participation in planned activities, and general observations throughout the day, without additional administrative burden. Parents can access this information whenever needed, allowing them clearer insight into their child’s development and daily habits during time spent in kindergarten.
“Our goal was to make communication between kindergartens and parents simpler and more transparent,” says Uroš Tomić from Smartlabs. “Veerny ensures that key information is available precisely when it matters most to parents.”
Beyond improving communication, the application also contributes to more efficient kindergarten management. By digitizing processes, administrative tasks become simpler, reporting more transparent, and work organization is better aligned with the real needs of children and educators.
The idea for developing the application emerged from practical experience and the everyday challenges faced by kindergartens and parents. Particular emphasis was placed on improving the exchange of information about children, without imposing additional administrative responsibilities on educators.
Continuous and structured monitoring of data related to children’s nutrition, development, and habits enables kindergartens to better align their work with the needs of the youngest, while digital tools remain a support to the educational process rather than an added obligation.
At a time when parenting increasingly takes place amid numerous obligations and limited time, Veerny serves as a tool for better communication, stronger trust, and a safer environment for young children-providing parents with a sense of closeness and reassurance throughout the day.
Thanks to the support of the Innovation Fund and the European Union, Veerny has evolved from an initial idea and prototype into a functional solution ready for use in real-life settings. By the end of 2025, the first kindergartens in Serbia will have the opportunity to use the application and experience its value in every day kindergarten practice.
