17.03.2026

Brussels today brought together representatives of European institutions and innovation organisations at the event “The Future of Science and Innovation in Serbia - Driving European Growth and Global Visibility,” organised by the Innovation Fund of the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union. The event was held as Serbia marks fifteen years of institutional support for innovation and in anticipation of the specialised exhibition EXPO 2027 Belgrade.

The event was opened by Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union, Danijel Apostolović, who emphasised the importance of cooperation between Serbia and the European Union in developing the innovation ecosystem and strengthening technological competitiveness.

The future directions of cooperation between Serbia and the European Union in the fields of research and innovation, as well as the importance of the upcoming specialised exhibition EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, were addressed by Prof. Dr Rastislav Stojsavljević, Special Adviser at the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, and Dušan Borovčanin, Adviser to the Director General of EXPO 2027 Belgrade.

Dr Saša Lazović, Director of the Innovation Fund of the Republic of Serbia, presented the results of the development of Serbia’s innovation ecosystem and the programmes supporting technology companies. He emphasised that partnership with the European Union has played a key role in establishing the institutional and programmatic framework that today drives the development of innovation and technology entrepreneurship in Serbia. He also noted that Serbia is increasingly developing technology companies that are successfully expanding into international markets and contributing to the strengthening of the European innovation landscape.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union, the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, and the EXPO 2027 Belgrade team for their support and partnership in organising this event, as well as for their joint efforts in strengthening the international positioning and global visibility of Serbia’s innovation ecosystem.
