SEQUI: Design That Grows with the Child

04.11.2026

Children's needs change rapidly, and so do the requirements for furniture designed for their early years. Driven by the idea of creating a product with multiple functions and a longer lifespan, architecture and design studio 759 Studio developed SEQUI, a modular cradle whose components adapt to different stages of a child's development.

With the support of the Innovation Fund of the Republic of Serbia and the European Union, the team continued developing the product and refining its prototypes, turning the initial idea into a functional solution. The goal was to create a system whose components could serve different purposes as a child grows, rather than requiring families to purchase several separate products.

SEQUI is based on a modular design that allows individual components to be combined and rearranged. As the child grows, parts of the original cradle take on new functions, extending their useful life and reducing the need to purchase new furniture.

“SEQUI is a fully modular system made up of individual components. All parts can be combined, rearranged and used throughout the first ten years of a child's life and beyond,” explains Aleksandar Majstorović of 759 Studio.

The idea emerged from the team members' personal experience. While preparing for the arrival of a baby, they were looking for a practical solution that could meet their family's changing needs over time. Unable to find a product on the market that met their expectations, they decided to design and develop their own.

An important part of the development process took place at the Science and Technology Park Čačak, where the team had access to prototyping facilities and equipment. This enabled them to explore different design solutions, test the functionality of individual components and gradually refine the product.

“The Innovation Fund's Mini Grants project was extremely valuable to us. Thanks to the prototyping facilities and office space, we were able to accomplish far more than we had originally envisioned,” says Aleksandar Majstorović.

The solution has also gained international recognition. Following its presentation at a conference in Helsinki, SEQUI was selected among the top 100 startups from Europe and North America. In addition, the innovation was recognized with the prestigious global Red Dot Award 2026 for Product Design, further confirming its position on the global market.
